Seats

Most 3 wheel travel system wheel double buggies start life as single pushchairs, although some can be converted to take a second seat or carrycot using adapters (these are typically more common in tandem buggies). Certain models let you add an additional board for older kids who are ready to walk, but require assistance.

For a lightweight option that is ideal for city streets, check out the Joie Evalite Duo. It's easy to move and comes with a large basket that is full of storage. It can accommodate twins from at birth and accepts two car seats, or a carrycot with seat. However, the seats have to be facing forwards, and there's no space to store a bag of groceries underneath, so you'll need a sidepack for that.

If you're looking to take off-road trips, the Mountain Buggy Duet is a great option. It's a side by side with the smallest footprint of any double buggy on the market. This allows it to fit through narrow doors and on public transport and also allows you to go up and down kerbs without much trouble. It also has a handbrake on the adjustable handlebar to provide additional security and safety.

The UPPAbaby vista 2 double is another lightweight 3 wheel buggy option that can be used by twins or a toddler and a baby. The seats have a multi-position reclining with UPF 50+ sunshades. Suspension

The suspension of a double 3 wheel buggy will determine how easy you and your child/children are able to push it. A smooth ride is crucial as babies can feel every bump in the road, particularly if it's in rough terrain such as grass or dirt roads. Some models have locking front tires that help maneuver and get over obstacles like curbs.

Some models come with air-filled tyres, which give you a great all-terrain experience, but they can be susceptible to punctures, therefore, make sure you have spares in the trunk. Other models use gel or foam tyres, which are designed to withstand bumps and can be less prone to punctures but you might feel a bit stiff and uncomfortable for your child's back should you choose to jog.

MFM reviewer Kath test-driven the Urban Glide 2 with her newborn and 3 wheel buggy for sale-year-old and found it extremely capable on terrain that is difficult to navigate. "It navigated effortlessly across bumpy sidewalks and grass cobbles, dirt tracks. It was also easy for me to maneuver around corners and get up and down kerbs." Folding

A three-wheel double buggy can fold up quite easily for storage. It can also accommodate a car seat or carrycot, so you get the best of both worlds and it can help you save money in the future since you don't have to buy a new buggy as soon as you get it.
