Fortunately, there are some simple steps that you can follow to replace your Volvo key fob battery on your own. Choose a clean surface to work on. Then, you can lay out all of the tools you require. Find the battery hatch, and ensure it is set to "open." Use a flathead screwdriver or coin or another similar tool to open the hatch to open. Next, carefully pry the battery out of its socket by lifting up on the side closest to the key-ring loop. Use rubber gloves to protect the electronic contact surfaces.

Once the battery has been removed, put the new one into its socket. Make sure that the positive side is facing upwards and that it's seated in all of the clips. Slide the cover downwards towards the key-ring portion until it becomes loose and falls off. Then, lift the cover and reveal the key blade inside. You can use this to unlock your car from the driver's doors when you've lost or damaged your key fob.

How to Start Your Vehicle

After you have opened the fob, you can locate and remove the CR 2032 3V battery. Replace the battery, then snap the fob.

Note: Some older Volvos use a different type of battery one called the CR2025. CR2025 batteries have the thickness of 7/10ths a millimeter less than a CR2032, so you'll need to be very careful when replacing your battery.
