3 Wheeler Buggies

A three wheeled buggies-wheeled buggy is ideal for off-road terrain and provides the most comfortable ride for infants. They are also more convenient to push and maneuver than a four-wheeler, especially those with fabric sling seats or modular seat units that are placed perfectly in the frame, delivering the most efficient geometry and weight distribution.

Stability

A three-wheeler has great stability, which is why it's a good option for off-road walking (especially with an all-terrain or off-road style seat unit). These buggys often have oversized front tires that can handle bumps, kerbs and rough terrain. Some have a lockable wheel on the front to provide extra stability when driving on uneven terrain.

It's important to remember that 3 wheel all terrain buggy-wheel buggies have lower centers of gravity than the 4-wheeled versions and, therefore, are more likely to fall over. But, the top 3-wheel pushchairs are designed with an ideal geometry and design to make them very solid in all conditions. They should be able to turn on a dime and be able to be controlled with one hand. They also feature an incline of 360o for the front wheel, which is ideal for maneuvering over difficult terrain.

Look for models with pneumatic tyres. They are made to work on tracks that are not paved, and should be able to take on rocks, mud, gravel and other debris. A tri-wheeled pram is a great option for runners and those who enjoy walking fast uphill. This is particularly true if you are planning to connect to a car seat or carrycot. Weight

If you're looking for a buggy that can handle the tough terrain then you want one with large wheels. These will cope well over cobbles, grass and dirt tracks and provide an enjoyable ride for any passenger. They are also great for jogging because they're equipped with suspension and are easy to move up and down kerbs. The trade-off is that they're quite heavy to push.

Fabric sling seats are tucked inside the frame of the buggie rather than sitting on top of it as modular seats. This design provides a lower centre of gravity that is at the ideal height, making it easier to push and lighter to pop the kerb (you can never underestimate how often you'll be doing this when you're a new parent!)

Seating

The seating capacity of 3 wheelers is quite impressive and there are many different choices to choose from. The carrycot that comes with it is perfect for newborns (which MFM reviewer Alice describes as a comfortable and cosy lie-flat bed that can be used in and out of the buggy). Older children and toddlers will appreciate the spacious and comfortable seat with adjustable ventilation. The seats are not able to recline completely, but can be adjusted to the lowest position. This should still give your child plenty of headroom and space.

A sling seat made of cloth is also available, which has the advantage of being placed snugly within the frame instead of on top like an open-back seat. This delivers a much lower centre of gravity and a perfect weight distribution. This makes it much easier and lighter to push, particularly over bumpy terrains or curbs. MFM reviewer Kath loved the way this kind of seat dealt with these obstacles.

Alongside a huge shopping basket, this kind of buggy generally has very useful features like an extendable 50+ UV hood, an easy to use brake pedal, and a few bright, game-changing lights that pop up from the handlebar and can be positioned in front of the occupants to increase their safety when tackling tricky terrain.

Stores

The 3 wheel pushchair sale-wheeled frame is much more stable and can be pushed with just one hand. It's also better for terrain that is difficult. The shopping basket is smaller than a four-wheeler.

A top-quality ATP will have pneumatic tyres with a padded grip for comfort and excellent suspension. It should be able to accept a carrycot or car seat, which means you can use it right from the time of birth.

The MFM reviewers noted that the 3-wheeler frame didn't fit through their home doors or car boot. If you're worried about space, make sure you check the dimensions of the buggy when it is folded prior to purchasing.

It's worth considering 3-wheelers that can accommodate two (or even 3!) seats when your family grows. They are the most efficient of both and future proof your money. The iCandy Strawberry Sport is one of the most well-known. It can be used from the day of birth as a single buggie and later converted into twin buggies when your baby is walking.

Tyres

These tires cushion bumps and uneven surfaces to make your child's journey more comfortable. They are commonly used on pushchairs such as the Phil & Ted’s Sport which MFM reviewer Kath said provided "an outstanding ride for her toddler". She also mentioned that the grippy tires of the Phil & Ted's Sport made it easier for her to maneuver around kerbs and other obstacles.

They can be difficult to maintain and will require having their air pressure maintained regularly. They are also more susceptible to punctures than foam tyres so you'll need to ensure that you have repair kits along with a spare inner tube and pump on hand when you are out and about with your buggy.

PU tyres can be seen on more pushchairs than air-filled tyres, yet they're just as robust. PU tyres are easily identified by their matte finish and soft feel. They also slide across flat and tidied surfaces.

If you move your hand over the tyres you can determine if they're PU or rubber. If it feels as if it's moving, then it is a PU. You can also determine whether your buggy is equipped with PU tyres sliding them on flat, clean surfaces. They should roll smoothly and fit snugly into the wheel hubs.

Foam tyres are typically used in high-performance buggies and joggers because they can cope with the rough terrain that's common to this type of pushchair. This can make your buggy less stable because the foam will lose its springy nature. Also, these tyres may often be noisy as they make lots of noise when you turn and make your way through town.
